How it works
The heatmap interpolates conditions data from 226 monitored regions across all 48 contiguous US states, and only colors areas within 150 km of one. Colors show estimated foraging potential based on SNOTEL/SCAN soil temperature, moisture, phenology windows, and drought status.
Coverage & Accuracy
Heatmap accuracy is highest near SNOTEL and SCAN monitoring stations. Western coverage (CO, MT, ID, WY, WA, OR, UT, NM, AZ, CA, NV) uses SNOTEL. Eastern & Midwest coverage (MO, IL, IN, OH, MI, WI, IA, MN, KY, WV, VA, PA, NY, TN, NC, GA, FL, ME, NH, VT, MA, CT, RI) uses SCAN stations. Areas between stations are interpolated and may be less precise.
