How it works
The heatmap interpolates conditions data from 119 monitored regions across 34 states. Colors show estimated foraging potential based on SNOTEL/SCAN soil temperature, moisture, phenology windows, and drought status.
Coverage & Accuracy
Heatmap accuracy is highest near SNOTEL and SCAN monitoring stations. Western coverage (CO, MT, ID, WY, WA, OR, UT, NM, AZ, CA, NV) uses SNOTEL. Eastern & Midwest coverage (MO, IL, IN, OH, MI, WI, IA, MN, KY, WV, VA, PA, NY, TN, NC, GA, FL, ME, NH, VT, MA, CT, RI) uses SCAN stations. Areas between stations are interpolated and may be less precise.
