ForageIQ ("we", "our", or "the app") is a mushroom foraging decision-support tool that scores conditions across all 48 lower US states. ForageIQ is available as a web app and as native mobile apps (iOS and Android). This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. By using ForageIQ you also agree to our Terms of Service.
When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google. Account data is stored in our Supabase database with row-level security.
With your permission, the app accesses your device location to show nearby foraging regions, display your position on the map, and estimate drive times to burn sites. On mobile, location access requires explicit OS-level permission. Your precise GPS is processed on-device for distance calculations and is not stored on our servers. When map tiles are loaded, viewport coordinates are sent to Mapbox to render the map (see Section 4).
Pro users can save personal pins on the map with coordinates, species, dates, notes, and optional iNaturalist observation links. Pins are private to your account, stored in our Supabase database, and never shared with other users or third parties. You can export your pins as CSV or GPX at any time.
When you mark a species as "Found" in MyCodex or star it as a target, we store that record (species slug, date, optional location from a linked pin) on a per-user row. If you also link your iNaturalist account, research-grade observations of tracked species can auto-unlock matching codex entries.
If you opt in to tier-upgrade alerts on the mobile app, we store an Expo push notification token tied to your device and user ID. Tokens are used solely to send alerts when a saved region you care about reaches S- or A-tier. You can opt out per-device in Account → Notifications, and we automatically clean up tokens that stop responding to push delivery.
When you generate a trip plan, your inputs (target species, location, drive time, dates, optional notes) are sent to Anthropic's Claude API. We do not include any personal account data in those requests. Trip plan history is stored on your account so you can revisit prior plans.
If you subscribe to ForageIQ Pro, payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe returns a customer ID and a subscription status that we associate with your account. See the Stripe privacy policy for how Stripe handles payment data.
We collect aggregated, non-identifying analytics (pages visited, features used) through Vercel Analytics to improve the service.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We share data only with the providers that are essential to operating ForageIQ:
Account data is retained as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us, which will permanently remove your personal data — pins, codex entries, targets, push tokens, trip plans — within 30 days. Aggregated, non-identifying analytics may be retained indefinitely.
We use HTTPS for all transport, secure authentication tokens, and Postgres row-level security policies that prevent users from reading each other's data. Service-role access is restricted to server-side code. No method of electronic transmission is 100% secure, but we make defense-in-depth a priority.
ForageIQ is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can revoke location and push-notification permissions at any time through your device settings. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email below.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We'll notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy here and updating the "Last updated" date.
