The Concho River valley around San Angelo — pecan, live oak and cedar elm bottoms where the Edwards Plateau meets the Rolling Plains. Oysters and chicken-of-the-woods on the river hardwoods after rain; puffballs and dung-loving Psilocybe and Panaeolus in the surrounding ranchland after warm storms. San Angelo State Park gives public access.
