Delta National Forest in the Mississippi Delta — the only bottomland hardwood national forest in the country, with oak, sweetgum, green ash and cypress-tupelo sloughs. Spring morels and summer chanterelles in the higher ridges; oysters, chicken-of-the-woods and hen-of-the-woods on the big bottomland oaks in fall. Floods most winters; roads close at high water.
