TOXIC. Causes delayed kidney failure (days after eating; may need dialysis). White cap with pyramidal warts, volva at base, NO spicy smell. Several hospitalizations from matsutake hunters misidentifying it.
Edible but bland, with a mealy odor. It lacks matsutake's spicy cinnamon smell. Similar size and habitat.
