"Not a fungus — a slime mold. Little pink pearls on wood ooze pink paste when crushed. Harmless curiosity."

Rotting Wood
Saprobic substrate
Saprobic substrate
Decomposing wood of unspecified species — substrate for many generalist saprobic mushrooms.
Pinkish-red bulging slime-mold fruiting bodies on rotting logs. Not actually fungi — slime molds (Myxomycetes). When young, they ooze a pink paste when squeezed. Photogenic but not for eating.
Habitat
Damp rotting logs across temperate regions. Spring through fall.
